"Camry’s interior fits your needs and feeds your desires with pleasing finishes and textures. It meticulously blends colors and materials."
No pair of midsize sedans has been in fiercer direct competition with each other than the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord. Since the late-‘80s and early ‘90s, they have dominated their shared segment with the ability to be all-rounders; either vehicle has a reputation for being durable, reliable, efficient, and roomy, which are attributes usually expected from midsize cars. The 2018 model year marks a special time for both sedans, as they both began new production cycles—eighth for the Camry, tenth for the Accord—with completely new designs. Although either car is an excellent choice, the Toyota ride is the better one based on the following:
With their brand-new designs, the 2018 Toyota Camry and the 2018 Honda Accord are sleeker, sportier-looking vehicles than ever before in their respective production histories. They are joined together in basic standard features such as automatic headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and power outside mirrors. However, it’s worth noting that the Accord has a narrow trunk opening, which can make it hard to load larger items. You will not have that problem with its counterpart from Toyota.
In an effort to make the Accord more efficient than ever before, Honda did away with the V6 engines of years past. Instead, you can choose between two relatively small turbocharged inline 4-cylinder (I4) engines: a 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter. Ironically, the 2018 Camry—with its larger, 2.5-liter I4—provides better fuel economy. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the engine enables the Toyota car to peak at a combined fuel efficiency of 35 mpg. On the Honda, peak combined fuel efficiency is measured at 34 mpg.
Toyota took great advantage of the 2018 redesign of the Camry by getting rid of most of the hard plastics that marred otherwise outstanding iterations of years past. The ambiance of the car’s cabin is consequently improved a great deal. By comparison, the 2018 Accord does have a significant amount of low-grade plastics that tarnish its interior.
Both vehicles are among the most handsomely equipped when it comes to safety features. Advanced technologies like collision warning, lane departure warning, and four-wheel disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist are standard. However, the Camry has the addition of smart stop technology for bringing the car to a complete stop if there is unintended acceleration and dynamic radar cruise control to enforce a safe speed and distance to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of you. Also, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, declared the 2018 Camry as a TOP SAFETY PICK+ vehicle, which is the highest designation that the organization awards for crash safety test performance. By comparison, the 2018 Accord is considered a TOP SAFETY PICK vehicle; that’s a designation that’s a notch below that of its Toyota counterpart.
For infotainment, the 2018 Camry is pretty loaded. Even at the base level, it comes with an Entune™ multimedia system that includes a 7-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, Siri® Eyes Free for voice command ability, and Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone operation and audio streaming. Also present is the Scout GPS Link app, which you can pair with your smartphone to receive turn-by-turn navigation instructions. By comparison, the 2018 Accord is rather bare. It starts off with a four-speaker audio system, and the 7-inch display that accompanies it is not a touchscreen.
