"It’s time to get off the beaten path and discover more good times with the new RAV4 Adventure grade. Hearty 18-in. 5-spoke Black alloy wheels, larger overfender flares and durable rocker panel guards all come standard, ready to help you take on any trip."
The need for additional utility in New York has lead to the birth of a new line of vehicles known as crossovers. Unlike true SUVs, crossovers are built upon car chassis. However, these sporty vehicles offer more powerful engines for hauling and towing cargo around NY. Two of the more popular entries in this category are the Toyota Rav4 and the Hyundai Santa Fe. Both of these vehicles are very popular, and this comparison is designed to help you make the better choice.
The Rav4 is one of the most attractive crossovers on the road and this design is largely responsible for its popularity. The 2018 model also boasts the unique design which has made this crossover famous. The new Rav4 has available 18” wheels which give it more off road ability. The tow prep package also includes lower body guards, fog lights and black bezels around the headlights. This trim also features more ground clearance for going off road around Greenvale, New York.
The new Santa Fe is very popular, but its body design has always concerned some consumers. Fortunately, the 2018 model has undergone some impressive changes. The dual exhaust pipes are also new for this model year as is the more aggressive looking grill. There are new wheel designs available for 2018 and the tail lights have also been redesigned. However, the Rav4 remains one of the most attractive crossovers on the road and not even the newly designed Santa Fe can dethrone it.
The Santa Fe offers average handling, especially for a vehicle that you might want to take off road. It also performs poorly at the pump, offering only 18 MPG in the city. However, it does offer a 290 hp V6 which makes it a capable towing vehicle. Unfortunately, the more powerful engine doesn't allow for quick acceleration. The Santa Fe accelerated from 0-60 in 7.3 seconds which won't allow you to easily pass slower traffic in Long Island.
Toyota's Entune Infotainment System is the Japanese car maker's modern interface. It takes advantage of smartphone technology and makes the Rav4 more user friendly. The 6.1" touchscreen interface is standard but the 7" is available on the higher trims. There's an impressive 70.6 cubic feet of storage room inside the 2018 model when the seats are folded. The leatherette upholstery is also very impressive for a crossover in this price range. The hybrid trim of the new Rav4 is slightly smaller inside, but it makes up for this with superior fuel efficiency. One tank can easily take this crossover from Westbury to Greenvale on a single tank.
One of the most impressive interior features of the new Hyundai is he driver mode selector. The option of normal eco and sport allow the driver to exchange power for fuel efficiency when conditions call for it. The 7" interface is now standard on all trims as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Santa Fe even has an available Infiniti sound system to keep you entertained in Bayside. However, the Rav4's Entune system is one of a kind and gives the interior advantage to the Toyota.
Many of these smaller crossovers will be purchased for younger drivers so safety is extremely important. The new Rav4 also features a plethora of driver assistance features. The Toyota Safety Sense system includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams and lane departure alert. The new Rav4 also includes a 360 degree camera to keep Valley Stream drivers safe.
The 2018 Toyota RAV4 offers several tech features including HomeLink®, used to control your garage door and your New York home's security from your vehicle, integrated navigation with a backup camera, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, Bluetooth® phone integration and Entune™ Premium Audio. The Toyota RAV4 also has Siri® Eyes Free, which allows voice control giving the driver increased safety when cruising around Greenvale, NY. While it is more bulky and not as easy to park, the Hyundai Santa Fe does feature a back up camera, HomeLink®, phone integration and satellite radio depending on which package you choose.
The Toyota difference.
Overall, the Hyundai Santa Fe is one of the best entrants in a crowded crossover category. However, Toyota has had a long time to perfect their crossover and it shows. It's a simple comparison of a Toyota to a Hyundai, a comparison that the Japanese car maker usually wins.
