7 Things You Need to Know About the C-HR
Long Island C-HR | NY Toyota Dealer Near Great Neck
The auto industry is constantly changing and evolving and Toyota has brought its A-game. Toyota introduces a crossover like no other, the New C-HR, to debut later this year. Before it hits our lots, there are 7 Things you Need to Know About this Buzzworthy Toyota.
Originally Designed to be a Scion
The concept had its first debut at the LA Auto Show in 2015, presenting as a functional yet sporty Scion.
Scion VP, Andrew Gilleland, stated: “the C-HR embraced the different and weird way the auto brand operated and wore it like a badge of honor.” The attempt was to develop a car that embraced the urban lifestyle. Later, Scion announced the brand would be discontinued in 2016, and then the C-HR along with other Scion vehicles were moved over to Toyota.
Why C-HR?
The name is derived from its Compact size and High Ride height, per the original press release. However, as noted on the Toyota parts center website, other sources claim it stands for “Coupe High Rider.”
The U.S. says no to the Turbo and Hybrid Versions
Europe receives the Turbo and Hybrid versions while the U.S. will only receive the base version of the C-HR. Still, the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine partnered with a continuously variable automatic transmission is very capable and provides noteworthy performance, getting 144-hp.
SAFE.
Despite the C-HR being available in FWD only, Toyota’s new crossover features numerous safety systems such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, steering assist, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. These features come standard, making it one of the safest crossovers on the market.
Interior Design matches the Exterior
The exterior is eccentric, and though the interior couldn’t match that edge entirely, the interior is just as eye-catching. Beginning with the blue trim that flows throughout the interior in a cool, edgy way.
The dash is horizontal with the infotainment screen on top. The charcoal upholstery strings everything together combining the exterior and interior style. Being there are a lack of buttons to finagle, it is speculated that most of the vehicle will be controlled via voice activation and touchscreen.
Shares DNA with the Prius
Sharing the TNGA platform, designed for multiple mid-size cars, with the Prius means that weight is reduced and performance increased, the result being a 15% rise in fuel efficiency. The Prius was first to receive the benefits of the new platform, tuned at the Nürburgring in Germany, but the C-HR will utilize every feature the shared platform provides.
Starting MSRP and its Debut Remain Unknown
Toyota will debut the edgy new C-HR sometime later this year as a 2018 model, but the exact date and starting price are yet to be released. Being comparable to its competitors, Kia Soul and Nissan Juke, a guessing price range would be $20-$25k range.
The C-HR is proof that Toyota is keeping up with the demands of the auto industry with integrity, creative craftsmanship, and quality. It seems Toyota will continue to stay on top as one of the leading auto brands in this industry. You can check out other great Toyota vehicles at Penn Toyota.
