Toyota Motor Corporation Models Receive 10 Segment Awards

While we aren’t even halfway through 2017 yet, early sales figures are in and Toyota has two entries amongst the top 10 best-sellers. This is due in no small part to Toyota’s growing reputation as a manufacturer of dependable and reliable vehicles. This reputation has recently been reaffirmed by Toyota’s significant recognition in a recent Vehicle Dependability Study.

The 2017 study, known as the VDS, is an analysis conducted by J.D. Power that reviews the dependability of vehicles based on segments and recognizes the top performers with 18 different segment awards. Dependability is judged based on problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2014 model vehicles. The study has been conducted annually for the past 28 years by J.D. Powers, which is a global leader in consumer insights, advisory services and data and analytics.

The rankings for the 2017 VDS were topped by Lexus and Porsche, followed immediately by Toyota. As Lexus and Porsche are considered high-end luxury brands, the results of this study show Toyota to be the most dependable mainstream vehicle available to the average buyer. Additionally, Toyota still ranked higher than many other luxury brands, including Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.

Of the various segments included in the VDS, Toyota vehicles topped three categories: Compact Car, Midsize Car and Large Car. The vehicles for these entries were the Prius, Camry, and Avalon respectively. The Toyota Camry is notable for its inclusion as a top entry in this study and also as one of the top ten best-selling cars in 2017 so far.
